Last night, on an common Tuesday, I was sitting in an common living room in Risskov with 40-50 common people.
But what made this common evening quite uncommon, was a special guest, by the name Jake Clemons. For most people in DK Jake is best known as the saxophonist in Springsteen’s E Street Band.
He came to Aarhus in a small rented car accompanied by his manager. With him he brought his guitar and saxophone and played acoustic for a few hours. Then we could have an informal chat with him, take pictures and get autographs.
Before he started playing, he surprised me by giving me handshakes as he recognised know me from Twitter, as I had sent an illustration for him.
I have seen many concerts, and a handful of them will forever hold a special place in my heart - the same thing happened last night!
It was an evening that I will probably never experience again, I was sitting 2 meters from this great musical personality, he stood up - completely “naked”, honest, with no “tricks” and sang his songs with all his soul. Several of the songs were introduced with both fun and sad stories. Life is bittersweet.
There was an opportunity to ask questions during the show, and I asked what these living room concerts gave him - what could he take home? Jake wanted to bring music to the people, without barriers, without intermediaries - the music started in the streets, came on vinyl, tape, CD and digital - and now, well - now the music is in the cloud, and nobody knows where the music really is …
Jake wanted to create a mood - one special connection between him and us. He succeeded, and when he finished with the notes from his saxophone, there was very, very quiet in the otherwise common living room with a completely uncommon lovely atmosphere in the air :)
I’ll never forget it! Fantastic!
